North Durham Campus
While each Summit Church campus incorporates the Summit brand into the design, it is important to Summit to make each campus unique to its location and represent the congregation. Pulling from all the artistic, vintage and retro vibes in Durham made designing this campus a delight! Working with the architect, the design direction for the exterior was to mimic an old warehouse building with heavily textured brick and messy mortar. We brought in the modern Summit brand elements by combining the rustic brick with a sleek metal storefront entry.
Continuing with this design aesthetic of old and new, the lobby mixes rustic wood beams and chevron wood wall panels with bright white walls and a dramatic dark wall with orange industrial pendant lights. The floors are raw polished concrete contrasted with the warmth of vintage rugs and lounge seating.
First Time Guests, Kids and Students are welcomed by their uniquely designed lobby spaces. The Nursery through Elementary Kids wing is themed with the Summit vision and mission of “Partnering with families to raise a generation for Christ” that are sent out into their schools, neighborhoods, cities and the world to share the Gospel of Christ.
This vision continues into the Student spaces through art and creating spaces that encourage fellowship and discipleship.
Summit loves their volunteers and shows their appreciation by creating a space just for them! Here they can store their personal belongings, enjoy a cup of coffee and a snack, while creating meaningful connections with those serving alongside them.
The staff spaces were designed for those serving on Sunday and for those that work in the office during the week. For the pastors and band members, we designed a Green Room backstage. And the weekly staff have an open office, conference room, print room, private office and a kitchenette.
